Torque represents the force that creates rotation or torsion of the material. Torque sensors are mostly present in the electromotors that are utilised to drive the shaft. The units in which torque is measured are Nm (Newton metres). For measuring the torque there are several types of sensors – strain gauges, rotatory transformers, optical sensors, and MicroWire, see our blog: How Does a Torque Sensor Work?. The uniqueness of the MicroWire lies in its passive nature, which enables the torque monitoring of the motor from the outside, without additional wiring to the rotating part.
